How to lose weight after vacation

How to lose weight after vacation

Let’s not pussyfoot around, I know you’re not very happy right now and your patience is running low. Why? Because you just came back from vacation, where you ate your heart out, tested the limits of your liver, and now your skinny jeans are cutting off your circulation. You’re grumpy and frustrated by your weight gain. The good times of that vacation have been quickly forgotten as the scale bitch slaps you back into reality. You know what, it’s OKAY! I got you boo. Today we’ll talk about my go-to methods for shedding those post vacation pounds FAST .

Less than a week ago I was frolicking on the beach, buzzed from my tequila shot, with another drink in my hand, and my third slice of pizza in the other. I was in heaven. Pure, Cancun bliss. We were staying at an all-inclusive resort, so my day’s schedule literally revolved around when we would eat. We could eat as  much as we wanted, drink as much as our livers would allow us, then go back to our suite, order room service for our 8th meal of the day and eat it on our king size bed that had just been turned down and sprinkled with bon bons. Needless to say, I consumed a couple extra thousand calories a day. Which is an easy thing to do when half of those thousands are liquid calories. Ever have a mango mojito? Tokyo Tea?  It’s da bomb diggity!!!

I regret nothing. I eat healthy about 95% of the time. My eating choices are based on what my body desires, and on this vacation, my body wanted to go balls to the wall! So I did.  I knew when I returned home I would do the damage control but for the meantime, I just wanted to enjoy and sample everything the resort had to offer.

I won’t lie, eating that way did affect me on more than a weight level. Since I eat mostly Vegan, and my alcohol consumption is a glass of wine 3 times a week or so, all of a sudden consuming large quantities of  animal products, processed sugar and liquor did send me on a bit of a roller coaster. Going from zero to 60 like that was a pretty harsh thing to put my body through, but again, I regret nothing. The experience and fun I had was worth it. It’s not something I do often and I am glad for all the wine and dine we were able to enjoy.

Now onto damage control: How to lose weight after vacation

Portions

Since you’ve probably been eating WAYYYYYY more than you normally do, simply returning to your normal eating habits will help cut all the excess calories.  Now, if in every day, non-vacation life you still eat like a pig, practicing portion control will help shed those pounds faster than any workout will. Weight loss begins in the kitchen. There is no need to complicate weight loss, its simple: burn more calories than you take in. That’s all there is to it. Read more about portion control here…

Ditch the dairy…temporarily.

Now I’m not telling you to go Vegan and give up your grub forever, but for a week or two, replace your standard dairy items with non-dairy options. Here’s the reason why: Dairy makes you fat. Cow’s milk is designed to turn a baby calf into a 400 pound cow! The animal protein and fat in dairy, it’s low carbs and lack of fiber is perfectly designed to turn you into a slow, fat ass cow.  Eliminate dairy for just a week or two and you WILL notice your body beginning to slim down nicely.  You’re not gonna die from lack of dairy, your bones aren’t goint to cripple and break. In fact, non-dairy alternatives not only are much easier on your weight, but also contain MORE calcium than dairy and taste just as freaking good.

Simply replace your conventional dairy products with the non-dairy alternative. It’s not that hard, and it’s not forever. Plant based alternatives have come a longgggg way in the flavor and texture department. You WILL be pleasantly surprised and maybe even find out your PREFER the non-dairy alternative. Stranger things have happened.

Belight Tea.

I loveeeee tea. Specifically the ones that accelerate your metabolism. This tea right here is extra special because not only is it made from a blend that is known for it’s weight loss properties, but it helps manage your cravings, gives you energy, AND restores your digestive system which is something we need after a vacation binge. I had ordered this tea before going on vacation because I read how great it was at supporting your digestive system and aiding in weight loss. I figured now would be a good time to put it to the test. I started with one cup in the afternoon,  reacted well to it, and added a second cup in the morning after breakfast to aid in that post-eating slump. It hasn’t even been a week since I’ve returned from vacation and I’ve already lost 5 pounds. That’s 5 ADDITIONAL pounds than what I weighed BEFORE I went on vacation. I knew returning to my normal portion sizes and plant-based diet would shed the excess weight alone, but I didn’t realize that merely adding this tea would help me shed even MORE weight. You can read more about it here

Last but not least…..

Citrus infused detox water

The meals, desserts and booze, all contain a high amount of sodium that just bloats you right up like a blowfish. Your body just holds onto all excess liquid and not only does it make the scale go up, but it also makes you feel uncomfortable, gives you a big ol’ poofy belly, and makes it hard to properly fit into your clothes . This citrus infused water will help flush out all that excess bloat, sodium and toxins.  I got the ORIGINAL recipe from the coolest chick, Cassey Ho over at blogilates .  The recipe below is the one that I use which is an adaptation from Cassey’s recipe that can be found here

Slimming citrus detox water:

–      5 slices of fresh cucumber

–     1/2 small lemon sliced

–     1/4 of a grapefruit sliced

–     16 oz of brewed peppermint tea

So I make 2 cups of peppermint tea, put it in the fridge to cool down, slice the fruit, and put it into my water bottle. Once the tea has cooled I pour it into my water bottle and let it refrigerate for a few hours so it can really get infused with all the citrus and minty goodness. Do not use HOT tea water as it will kill all the nutrients of the fruit.

Cassey from Blogilates explains why this infused water works:

*Cucumbers prevent water retention and also have many anti-inflammatory properties.

*Lemon provides the cleansing effect of citric acid to help clear out the digestive system

*Oranges contain flavonoids in the peel and juice that stimulate the immune system and protects against a fungi/pests while helping to reduce cholesterol levels (the same applies to grapefruit)

*Mint helps the body digest more easily and it also soothes any stomach cramps you may have.

Cassey also says: Keep in mind that the more you refill your jug, glass or bottle with the same fruits, the more diluted and less nutrient-dense the fruit becomes. So I would recommend that after 2 or 3 refills, dump it and replace with fresh cuts to make sure you get all the vitamins and minerals you need. I also wouldn’t leave the fruits in there for more than 24 hrs before changing it.

In the comments below, what are some of your favorite dairy alternatives? Have any foods that you LOVE but only allow yourself to eat them when you’re on vacation?
